Salt Lake Coffee Break is a cozy downtown Salt Lake City cafe that strikes a balance between laid-back comfort and a touch of eclectic character. The space feels distinctly local, with rustic, East Coast-inspired decor and eye-catching rugs lining the walls, inviting you to settle in for a slow morning or a quiet late-night retreat. The friendly baristas create an approachable vibe, making it an easy spot to visit whether you’re flying solo or meeting up with friends or colleagues.

The coffee selection leans toward satisfying, robust brews rather than trend-chasing specialty drinks. Standouts like the caramel macchiato and the chunky monkey hot coffee offer something a bit different than your typical cafe lineup, while options like Turkish coffee provide a nod to more international tastes. There are also simple snacks like cheese danishes and chocolate cake, perfect for a light bite alongside your cup.

What sets Salt Lake Coffee Break apart is how it fits into local rhythms. The shop caters well to early risers seeking a strong espresso or Americano, as well as night owls needing a cozy venue — it’s open until 1 AM, making it suitable after evening events nearby, such as the Utah Symphony. The patio space is a quiet urban refuge during warmer months, and the indoor seating feels intimate but uncluttered, ideal for low-key meetings or solo work sessions.

The staff’s flexibility with dietary needs and genuine attentiveness resonates with regulars who appreciate a personalized experience rather than a cookie-cutter one. Whether you’re here to soak up some quiet time with a matcha latte or connect over a hot tea and conversation, the cafe creates a relaxing backdrop without fuss.

Overall, Salt Lake Coffee Break suits those who value a local gathering spot that’s unpretentious yet thoughtfully designed, blending everyday practicality with touches of personality. The mix of early morning crowd and late-night visitors makes it a versatile space in the city’s coffee scene, especially for people who appreciate a dependable, friendly staff and a quietly interesting setting.

We come here for meetings and it is easily one of the best places to sit down, talk, discuss whatever is at hand, get your drink and a sweet and chill. I have a lot of dietary restrictions and the barista has helped me every time we've come to find something I will like and something I can drink! Very lovely person!

Stopped by late Friday night after enjoying Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 at the Utah Symphony, and I’m so glad this place is open until 1 AM! It’s a great spot to unwind in the area. The hot chocolate was delicious—especially with whipped cream. The staff was super friendly and nice to chat with, which made the experience even better. Definitely a cozy late-night gem!

Great downtown coffee shop. Friendly and welcoming baristas. Early morning - late night hours. The patio is second to none and I love the rugs on the walls inside! The ONLY thing missing here that would add tremendously to the atmosphere is an electronic BUBBLE MACHINE. Various slow form bubble machines decorated and scattered about. Perhaps even a karaoke microphone doubled as a bubble machine for your musically inclined patrons. Pouring harmonizing sound toward the ceiling, intermingled with such bulbous whimsy. Done correctly this could even be a profitable investment for the owners here. Bubble Machine Karaoke lies directly on the horizon! With much appreciation for your consideration, thanks.

A cute little coffee shop. It has a very eclectically rustic feel throughout the shop which feels very reminiscent of the east goes and gives it a lot of visual interest in this city. The coffee/lattes aren’t necessarily the best I’ve had in the city, but they aren’t bad by any means— still good coffee. The people at the shop are what make it though! The staff here is always really kind and patient with my incredibly frustrating indecision in choosing a drink. They never seem bothered by a request and are always willing to suggest things!

I love this place, love the vibes and the coffee. The coffee is reasonable priced and the music they've got on is always great. I also love coming here late at night to study on weekends. It's like the only place I can get a coffee later at night. I took off one star because the bathroom situation is pretty obnoxious. You've got to ask for a key and most the time someone else has it then it's waiting for them or hoping to see who just left the bathroom. There are two bathrooms but one of them has ben "out of order" for what seems like months and months.

A very nice spot -- probably the best coffee shop I've been to. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is unique, and the drinks are good. If you want a place to work or meet up with friends, this is the place to do it. There is a welcoming atmosphere, and you'll feel right at home. There's plenty of space to set up a laptop and log on the wifi to get stuff done.
